A new review can help a potential customer decide whether to trust your dry cleaner. It may also help your visibility on Google, but there is no review count that guarantees a spot in the local results. Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. Distance and relevance matter too.
For the full picture of how Google Maps rankings work, read our August guide to local rankings for dry cleaners. Here, we'll focus on what a cleaner can do with reviews: ask fairly, respond well, and track the results without guessing what caused a ranking change.
Google describes local ranking in terms of relevance, distance, and prominence. Reviews are one part of prominence. Its published guidance says that more reviews and positive ratings can help a business's local ranking. It does not give businesses a target number of reviews or a formula for how much each review changes a result. Read Google's local ranking guidance.
Recent, detailed reviews and thoughtful replies can also help customers judge whether a shop is right for them. But don't tell an owner that a newer review, a service keyword in a review, or a reply will move the listing up by a predictable amount. Google's public guidance does not make that promise.
Get your review link. In your Google Business Profile, choose "Read Reviews" and then "Get more reviews" to copy a link or save a QR code. Google suggests sharing the link on receipts or in thank-you emails. A counter sign can display the QR code. Google's instructions for review links and QR codes explain the steps.
Choose a regular touchpoint after a customer has used the service, such as a receipt or follow-up message. Try: "If you have a moment, we'd appreciate an honest review of your experience with us." Don't reserve the request for customers who seem pleased or redirect unhappy customers away from Google.
A customer may mention a comforter, an alteration, or pickup and delivery because that is what happened. Don't ask them to include a service name, staff member, or keyword. Don't offer a discount, gift, or other benefit in exchange for a review. Google's review policy prohibits incentives, selective requests for positive reviews, and pressure to include specific content.
Thank customers for positive feedback without copying the same response every time. For a complaint, acknowledge the concern and offer a way to continue the conversation privately. Keep order details and personal information out of the public reply. Google encourages responses because they show customers that the business values feedback; it does not publish a response-rate ranking weight. See Google's ranking guidance.
Check how many new reviews arrive each month, your overall rating, and whether your team is replying. Look at the businesses appearing for your important local searches to understand the market, but compare results from the same area over time. A single search from a different neighborhood is not a fair before-and-after test.
If reviews grow but your visibility does not, check the rest of the profile. Are the category, services, hours, and location information accurate? Reviews cannot change how far the shop is from a searcher or make an incomplete profile relevant to every search. Google recommends complete, accurate Business Profile information.
Start with a simple baseline: your current reviews, the nearby businesses customers see for your core searches, and the accuracy of your Business Profile. Cleaner Marketing helps dry cleaners work through those local visibility basics. Learn more about our local SEO services.
